Mozilla Firefox: Advantages and Disadvantages

Mozilla Firefox is an internet browser created by the Mozilla Corporation. It can be downloaded at: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/. It is the world's third most widely used web browser. The advantages and disadvantages will be summarized below and all critiques or discussion is welcome.

Advantages:

  1. It is Plug-in compatible meaning the browser is given the ability to add certain features to the browser to add new features or make existing features more convenient or intuitive.
  2. Generally fast web page downloads
  3. "Safe browsing" gives added security against phishing attacks and malware
  4. Multi-tab feature allows for easy multi-tasking
  5. Private browsing allows user to surf the internet without recording history or cookies

Disadvantages:

  1. Running multiple instances of Plug-in Apps heavily slows down web page downloading
  2. Toolbar customization can easily get out of hand and over-clutter browser space
  3. Some Compatibility issues; not all websites are compatible with Mozilla Firefox
  4. Slow initial boot time
  5. Known for high CPU memory usage
